Two workshops will be organised in 2009 and presented during 'Design Den Haag 2010'.
The workshop 'Political Campaigns' will take place in April. Students from the Royal Academy of Art, the Universität der Künste Berlin and the Kunsthochschule Berlin Weissensee will participate.
“The link between government and design is often made by one of the most direct political manifestations within our democratic system; the election poster.
The election poster addresses citizens directly and encourages them to take action and use
their right in western countries to vote.
Considering the extraordinary and ongoing technological and digital developments around us, we may reasonably wonder whether today the election poster is still an appropriate tool to communicate certain information to citizens.
Because of the seeming success of the various, mainly digital communication tools successfully applied during Barack Obama’s election campaign, future political campaigns might look entirely different from now on.
In such a case the (election) poster might become nothing more than an additional tool to ‘refer’ citizens to these mainly digital platforms.
Eventually, the election poster might cease to exist all together.
Within the scope of Design Den Haag 2010 scheduled for 13 to 17 April 2009, an international workshop will be held dedicated to the shape of future election campaigns.
Students participating in this workshop will, inter alia, take on the challenge of developing concepts for such campaigns.
In doing so they will concentrate on three political parties: a left-wing party, a party operating on the right of the political spectrum and one ‘centrist’ party.
In the end, participants might also be challenged to design an election poster”.
In October 2009, VIDE will organise the workshop 'One single uniform for Europe'
